Here are a few important policies taken from the handbook
A hardcopy of the entire handbook will be given upon interview
- Christian Child Care:
What does this mean? This means that Amy's Kids In Home Christian Preschool aka the home, is run from a Christian's point of view. We emphasize on children learning kindness, respect, sharing, love, etc. This also means that Amy and her husband, TJ, treats the children in the same manner. No foul language, cruelty or questionable conversation will be used at any time. The curriculum includes Bible stories and Christian music, along with other children's stories and songs. A simple prayer will be sung at breakfast, lunch and snack times to encourage thankfulness. Daily Devotions will be read from a Preschool devotional to encourage a simple relationship with Jesus and learn how He wants us to be. Even though this is a Christian home, everyone is welcome and doctrine will not be forced on you or your child at any time. Amy is in charge and is in direct supervision of the children at all times, except when using the rest room. Ultimately, we (Amy and TJ) want you and your children to feel safe, loved and at home.
If your child will not be attending, notification is required by 6:45am. Notice given the night before is highly preferred. This ensures daily activities/meals can be planned without disruption. Please call or email Amy to notify of any late arrivals either the night before or the morning of by 6:45am. Keep in mind we have a daily schedule and want to keep things moving along as planned without interruption or exclusion. Please make sure that your child is dropped off no later than 9am, even on days that you may have off work. Preschool Lesson Activities take place between 9 and 11am and we want to make sure that every child is able to participate without missing out on something. Allowing your child to sleep in and bringing them in later than 9 or 10am may result in nap time issues, something we'd like to avoid.
Please do not bring your child in before 7:00am or pick them up later than 5:30pm. If you are late picking up your child, $1 per min. will apply.
Child care fees are due whether or not your child attends, unless Amy's Kids is closed. The weekly contract rate agreed upon by you and Amy is due each Friday, except those weeks that Amy or children schedule vacation.
Amy will take up to 2 weeks vacation and as needed personal days per year without payment. Personal days should not exceed more than 10 days per year and will not be consecutive. Holidays are understood as non business days such as the weekend. You will be given at least 30 days notice before Amy's vacation time and at least 7 days notice before a personal day off is taken. 1 week's vacation is typically taken in July. It is your responsibility to schedule alternate care. Each family may have one vacation week (5 consecutive days) without services and without payment to Amy once they have been enrolled for at least 6 months.
To ensure the highest quality care, Amy must remain in good health both physically and emotionally. Therefore, the following days will be observed and Amy's Kids will be closed without payment:
- New Year’s Day
- Good Friday
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- Illness/First Aid:
Under no circumstance is a sick child to attend Amy's Kids. Children come first before anything else. Please note that if your job is more important than the well being of your child, this facility is not the place for you. Children should be allowed to recover fully from an illness in the comfort of their own home. Even though your child may have already been exposed to an illness in daycare, no child wants to be shipped off to daycare when sick. It is up to you to find alternate care if you are unable to stay home. For the benefit of all involved, children exhibiting ANY the following symptoms within the proceeding 24-hour period are likely to be contagious and should remain at home. Examples of symptoms include, pink eye, fever of 100.5F, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, loss of voice, hacking or continuous coughing, yellow or green runny nose, draining eyes or ears, contagious rash, or head lice. This includes Amy's own children. If any of Amy's children exhibit any of the above, you will be notified and it will be to your own discretion to bring your child to daycare. If the illness of Amy's children requires a Doctor's appt. Amy has the right to schedule that appt. and will notify you to pick up your child/ren as soon as possible. Amy will not be responsible in the event other children get sick. In the event Amy or other family members become so ill that you are asked NOT to bring your child in, you will be reimbursed or credited for that day, for the following week's tuition. (ex: if you were asked not to come in at all, you will be credited for that day. If you are asked to leave early, you will be credited ½ day if the time of dismissal is 3 or more hours before YOUR normal pick up time) If Amy becomes ill during the day but feels she can still work, you will be notified and it will be to your own discretion whether or not to pick up your child.
Amy will reserve the right to determine whether a child should remain in the home when illness is a consideration. If your child becomes ill during the day, you will be promptly notified and are expected to arrange to pick up your child immediately. This includes more than 2 loose bowel movements or throwing up more than once. Your child will, if possible, be isolated from the other children to minimize exposure. If you cannot be reached, the emergency contact person will be notified.
- Behavior and Discipline:
The children will be disciplined in a manner appropriate to the situation. Normal disruptions up to and including typical child hood behaviors such as hitting, pinching, spitting, pulling of hair, etc. will be dealt with by the following means: firm verbal reproof of negative action, redirection, and time out if necessary. Violent or abusive behavior will not be tolerated, either to the other children or to Amy. We go by 3 strikes, you're out for biting. If your child bites more than 3 days, they will be terminated. If negative behavior makes it necessary, a conference will be scheduled to discuss behavioral problems and ways to solve them. Termination will occur if your child displays a consistently aggressive disposition that cannot be curbed by discipline determined by shared agreement between you and Amy. We want every child to feel safe and loved while on the premises.
Any behavior that disrupts or threatens the pleasant environment for the other children will NOT be tolerated. Acceptable behavior will always be encouraged with verbal rewards and positive reinforcement.
- Meals & Snacks:
Breakfast is served between 7:30 and 8:30 am. It's “eat as you arrive” style. If you wish for your child to have breakfast please have them at Amy's Kids no later than 8:30. If your child is still hungry even if they had breakfast at home and you arrive to care before 8:30, they may eat a second breakfast :-) If your child will be arriving after 8:30, PLEASE feed them breakfast before coming to childcare. Lunch will be served at 11:15 and afternoon snack at 3:30pm. Amy is not responsible for serving dinner.
At Amy's Kids, we only serve hot, nutritious, and well balanced breakfasts, lunches and snacks. Children’s behavior can be infavorably affected by foods that are high in sugar and salt, or that lack the proper vitamins and nutrients for development. For this reason we do not provide sugary/salty snacks or meals, nor is your child offered high sugar drinks. Canned/boxed/fried foods are served on a BARE minimum. Most lunches and breakfast will be home-made and consist of many organic foods. Organic milk will always be served for lunch, and 100% juice or water will be served for snacks. Water will be available throughout the day. Some snacks may be different than what is posted due to some cooking in the curriculum.
The weekly menus were created with my own child in mind. It has been tweaked here and there since opening Amy's Kids due to the likes/dislikes of certain items on the menu. While it is completely and totally understood that FRESH and home-made is better, it's not always feasible when it comes to picky children. This is why there are a few pre packaged items on the menu (ex: chicken nuggets/tenders/strips, and Dole Fruit cups in 100% juice). All weekly meals will be posted in the home and on the website.
*Peanut butter is not served to any child at any time in care.
Weekly status is not prorated. If you are contracted for full time, you pay the full time rate each week unless Amy's Kids is closed. If you are contracted for part time you pay for the days contracted and any additional days needed. Since part timers take up a full time spot, you may be free to use whichever days you'd like as long as it's 3 days or less and you MUST give notice of these days before the week begins. Showing up unexpectedly will result in a drop in fee for however many hrs the child is in care. This drop in fee is in addition to the regular weekly fee.
*Deposits must be made in order to hold a position. It is preferred that positions not be held for more than 30 days. However, this may be negotiated depending on how many children are currently in care, especially for those who are expecting. If there is only ONE position available, a larger deposit will be required to hold the spot for more than 30 days. All monies paid prior to care will be used towards tuition. In the event you choose to withdraw the contract, any monies paid is non-refundable. Cash or Check is accepted. Please make checks payable to Amy West. You will receive a receipt for your payments each week as well as an end of the year statement for tax purposes. If you wish to receive an itemized receipt at the end of the year, just ask. This is a business and will be treated as such. It is also tax deductible!
Should any check be rejected by Amy's financial institution, a $35 charge will be added to the sum of the contracted weekly payment, and, restitution will be demanded for any fees Amy should incur associated with the returned payment. Payment, including fees, is expected within 5 working days or sooner of any check being rejected. If payment is not made and no resolution agreement is made, child care services for your child will be terminated. If more than one check is returned, your account will be placed on a cash only basis, no exceptions.
Pets: There is one healthy and friendly dog on the premises. Lilly is part of the family. She is kept up to date on immunizations and parasite control. She will be kept separate from the kids during daycare hours. However, please note that even though Amy does her best to keep the home clean, there will be traces of dog hair here and there, as the dog has free reign of the house during non-business hours. If you don't want to ever see pet hair on your child at all, whatsoever, Amy's Kids may not be the place for you. It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to keep the home completely FREE of dog hair.
House Cleaning: Amy's Kids will not be spotless all the time. You may see some dog hair here and there at times and dishes may not be done by pick-up time. It is more important that your children are well cared for and happy. Cleaning will be done during nap time, non business hours, and/or with your child's help. Children should learn to clean up after themselves, therefore will be encouraged to do so. Please note that all cleaning products used are eco-friendly but will be locked in a cabinet when not in use. (Method, Shaklee, and Seventh Generation are some of the products used) Children will eat using washable dishes and use washcloths instead of paper towels or napkins.
